 Glenn
Simmions was born in Barney, a small southern town in south
Georgia. His work is greatly influenced by his southern roots
as he depicts blues singers, farm animals, famous and not
so famous people from his memory into drawings and paintings.
He started painting at about 12 years old using house paint
on cardboards that came in the back of new shirts. He now
paints on wood, cardboard, notebook paper and metal.
"I
first get a picture in my head then start drawing with a sharp
number 2 pencil. I got thousands of pictures in my head from
living in the country and growing up in a small town mostly.
I like bright colors cause they show happiness. Painting makes
me free and happy. For years when I stopped painting I felt
incomplete, now that I am painting again I feel complete"
